Exploring A Day in Ben Tre – Experience the True Delta Life, the peaceful heart of the Mekong Delta. Cruise along quiet waterways, cycle through coconut groves, and meet local families who keep age-old crafts alive. From sampan rides and countryside lanes to a delicious regional lunch, this day offers a genuine taste of delta life and its unhurried charm.
You will be picked up at an appointed place and start driving toward Ben Tre. Arrive at the meeting point at 10:00am and meet your local guide, who will lead you on a gentle walk through a nearby village. Take in scenes of everyday life, from fruit gardens to traditional homes, before reaching the pier. Board your day boat and begin cruising through the smaller arms of the Ben Tre River, watching quiet riverside communities go about their morning as you travel (cruise time approximately 30 minutes).
Your first stop is Bao Island, where you’ll explore a coconut garden and refresh yourself with a chilled coconut straight from the source. Then reboard your boat and continue toward a local coconut workshop to observe how coconuts are processed into various products by hand — a signature industry of the region.
From here, hop on a bicycle for a relaxed ride of about 4km around Huu Dinh village. During the ride, you’ll pause at a centuries-old brick-making site where bricks are still formed and fired using traditional techniques.
After cycling, take a short transfer by boat to the opposite riverbank, where a sampan awaits. Settle in as your local rower guides you through peaceful, palm-shaded canals — a signature Mekong Delta scene. After roughly 15 minutes, step ashore at the home of Mrs. Huong, whose family lives from shrimp trapping, fishing, and small-scale farming. Enjoy warm hospitality here, with tea, coconut candy, and puffed rice prepared fresh in the family garden.
Next, climb aboard a xe loi — a motorized countryside cart — for a ride along narrow village paths lined with coconut palms and tropical greenery. Afterwards, return to your day cruiser for a riverside transfer to a selected restaurant, where a five-course lunch featuring regional specialties will be served.
Once you’ve had time to rest and freshen up, continue your experience with a short 500-meter bicycle ride (or 7–10 minute walk) along leafy local lanes. Visit the home of Mr. Ba Tai to discover the local craft of rice-wine distillation, then move on to see Mrs. Sau Tuong, known for producing crisp rice paper, the pride of My Long village. Enjoy a taste and learn about her family’s traditional method.
At around 15:30, walk to the main road where your vehicle will be waiting for the return journey to Saigon.
