Itinerary

Leave the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City behind as you set out for the peaceful waterways of the Mekong Delta. Along the drive, you’ll pass through vast stretches of emerald rice paddies before stopping at Vinh Trang Pagoda, an elegant 19th-century temple that blends Vietnamese, Chinese, and Khmer architectural styles.

Upon reaching My Tho, board a wooden boat and begin your cruise along the gentle flow of the Mekong River. Watch as local life unfolds on the banks—fishermen casting their nets, boats laden with fruits, and houses perched above the water. Continue deeper into Ben Tre, known as the “land of coconuts,” where narrow canals lined with lush palms invite you to slow down and take in the tranquility.

Step ashore to explore the village on foot and visit local families who still preserve traditional crafts. Sample fresh tropical fruits, sip honey tea, and taste local wine as you listen to Traditional Southern Folk Songs performed by the villagers. A local lunch featuring Mekong specialties will be served before you continue your journey.

In the afternoon, drive onward to Can Tho, the cultural and economic heart of the delta. After checking into your hotel, enjoy a leisurely evening—perhaps a stroll along the riverside promenade or a visit to the lively night market.

Overnight in Can Tho.

Meals: lunch

Rise early, around 6:00am, to experience the Cai Rang Floating Market—one of the Mekong Delta’s most iconic sights. From the pier, board a boat and begin cruising along the river, where dozens of vessels gather to trade fresh fruits, vegetables, and all kinds of local specialties. Look out for the bẹo pole—a slender bamboo stick displayed on each boat to show what’s for sale and attract passing customers. As the sun rises, the river comes alive with the hum of boat engines, cheerful chatter, and the aroma of steaming noodle soups and strong Vietnamese coffee. More than just a market, it’s a vibrant scene that captures the spirit of delta life.

Continue your boat trip to a small rice noodle workshop near Cai Rang, where you’ll see how this staple of Vietnamese cuisine is made by hand. Locals use natural ingredients to create subtle, plant-based colors for the noodles. The process involves soaking, grinding, filtering the starch, steaming, hand-cutting, and finally drying the noodles under the sun—a labor of love that preserves both flavor and tradition. Take a short walk around the workshop and sample some freshly made noodle dishes before returning to your hotel for check-out.

On the way back to Ho Chi Minh City, stop at the 10 Vo Ancient House—an over-a-century-old wooden home that showcases the architecture and lifestyle of southern Vietnam. Here, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at making crispy bánh xèo, a beloved Vietnamese savory pancake, before enjoying a hearty local lunch. If time permits, take a short bike ride through the surrounding countryside, passing fruit orchards and quiet canals while greeting friendly locals along the way.

In the afternoon, drive back to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving around 4:30pm, where your Mekong Delta adventure comes to an end.
